VIZ Media to publish 3 Naruto novels
On the official VIZ Media Twitter, it was announced that three new novels in the shonen franchise created by Masashi Kishimoto, each centered on one of the main characters in the series.
The image labels them with the following titles from their previous releases: Sasuke Retsuden – Mr. and Ms. Uchiha and the Starry Heavens, Kakashi Retsuden – The Sixth Hokage and the Failure Boy, and Naruto Retsuden – Uzumaki Naruto and His Best Buddies.
They are likely to be modified after official posting once translated as the Tweet provides an alternative title, Kakashi’s Story: The Sixth Hokage and the Failed Prince.
These novels will begin to be published in summer 2022, and Kakashi’s will be the first. Each one is written by Jun Esaka with illustrations from the manga series Masashi Kishimoto.
The story involving Sasuke seems to directly involve Sasuke and Sakura’s relationship, which has had many ups and downs, as fans have long known.
Kakashi will likely revisit his time as the Hokage of Konoha, as he was the sixth Hokage, although it was only for a short period of time. This title was quickly achieved by protagonist Uzumaki and Kakashi resigned from the position after feeling he was unsuitable for the role.
What novels are Canon in Naruto?
As the novels are mostly illustrated by the creator Masashi Kishimoto and written by different authors. Then, we can say that they are all canon and they take place after the events of the manga (it was Shippuden).
The Retsuden era novels were originally published in 2019, but now fans will be able to enjoy the upcoming English translations (perhaps very soon in Spanish as well). These are not the Jun Esaka’s first translated novels.
Esaka also wrote Sasuke’s Story – Star Pupil, which was released in 2020 and focused on Sasuke’s training to Team 7 – tasked with training Boruto Uzumaki, Mitsuki and his own daughter, Saruda Uchiha.
These are also the three most recent novels in the shonen franchise, of which there have been many. The Kishimoto franchise has expanded significantly since the manga originally began serialization in 1999.
It also shows no signs of stopping or slowing down now that the next generation of shinobi is the focus of the story. Previous novels have focused on a variety of characters, including Sakura, Shikamaru, Itachi, the protagonist, Sasuke, and Kakashi.
The last three have proven to be some of the most popular characters in the series, even with their descendants and apprentices taking the helm. The world of Konoha will continue to expand with each addition and fans have a lot to look forward to when this new series launches next summer. Before, Shikamaru’s story makes its English debut.
Meanwhile, fans can catch up on the sequel manga. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations en MANGA Plus or watch anime series from the platform Crunchyroll. What do you think of the novel series? Do you consider them canon?
