By the time Naruto made his appearance, Eiichiro Oda was already a recognized young artist thanks to Luffy having already set sail on his adventure. However, the creator of one piece found in Naruto a worthy companion in Weekly Shonen Jump, which is why he made the decision to draw his own version of the ninja to honor Masashi Kishimoto.
