Top 5 Times The Third Hokage Did What He Could To Help Naruto

Naruto is one of the most popular anime and manga today and it is that the history of the ninja world has surprised us all, especially for its amazing characters that are part of Naruto’s journey to become Hokage, a position that , carries a great deal of responsibility for the village.

The Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, gave his own life to face the Nine-Tailed Fox and drive Obito Uchiha away, all in one night. With his and Kushina’s deaths, young Naruto was left alone, and it fell to the retired Third Hokage (Hiruzen Sarutobi) to take over and take care of Naruto. How did that turn out?

In hindsight, Hiruzen Sarutobi’s handling of the situation was uneven. The newborn Naruto Uzumaki had no family in the Leaf Village, and everyone feared the demon fox that lived inside him. The Third Hokage didn’t shirk his duty, but on the other hand, he probably could have taken some extra steps for Naruto’s sake.

Naruto entrusted Kakashi Hatake

When Naruto finally graduated from the ninja academy, he ended up in Team 7, consisting of himself, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno (although not all of them got along). But they did not have an ordinary jonin as a teacher, but they ended up with Kakashi Hatake.

It is likely that only the stern but intelligent (and caring) Kakashi could have handled the likes of Naruto, and the Third Hokage personally made sure that Kakashi, and no one else, was in charge of Naruto’s team. Looking back, it was a good decision.

He sent a ninja to find Naruto when Mizuki ambushed him.

In the end, Naruto didn’t need as much help against the scheming ninja Mizuki, as he had Iruka Umino looking after him, not to mention the newly learned shadow clone jutsu. Still, the third Hokage took steps to protect Naruto from Mizuki’s threat.

But that was not the only reason. Hiruzen not only wanted to keep Naruto safe, but he also wanted to stop the nine-tailed fox from escaping, and prevent total disaster. For the sake of Naruto and the village, Hiruzen arranged for ninja teams to rescue Naruto in the middle of the night.

Watch Naruto with an orb

Hiruzen Sarutobi watched Naruto from afar, and not just with his henchmen. Hiruzen used a magic ball to keep an eye on Naruto from a distance, something that appeared several times in the first handful of Naruto episodes. It’s a good way to keep an eye on someone.

Hiruzen could arguably have done a lot more based on what he saw in that crystal ball, but at least he was trying, and that’s how he knew Naruto was being cornered by Mizuki. Hiruzen also used this crystal ball to see Naruto and Konohamaru making a fool of themselves together when Naruto performed the infamous Sexy Jutsu.

Giving Naruto a chance to prove himself

When Naruto joined Team 7, he began to go on official ninja missions. That is, D-rank quests. Said quests don’t even involve combat, and instead, are more like errands and tasks for the villagers. Naruto and Sasuke were frustrated so when Naruto said something the Third Hokage did him a favor.

Hiruzen understood that Naruto wanted a chance to prove himself, and Naruto had more than a little need for validation. So the Third Hokage kindly assigned Team 7 a C-rank mission: escort Tazuna, a bridge builder, back home to the Land of Waves. Now that is a mission.

Giving Naruto a chance in the Chunin Exams

After the Land of Waves mission, Naruto and his team went back to doing easy D-rank missions until the 3rd Hokage got an idea. If Naruto could survive facing off against Zabuza Momochi and Haku, he too would have a chance at the Chunin Exams. So he gave Team 7 a chance to prove himself once again.

Despite Iruka’s apprehension, Hiruzen arranged some tests for Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura, and once the genin passed, Hiruzen made sure that Naruto and his allies had a place in the chunin exams. This would pay off tremendously, and through the Third Hokage, Naruto had exponential growth. In fact, it was then that Naruto met his future mentor, Jiraiya the Toad Sage.
