Romance in shonen manga is a rarity. Many series hint at it, but stay away from any direct confirmation, unless it is an ending. First of all, the genre is mainly aimed at young boys, and girls have lice. Second, everything revolves around action. There is no time for romance. Without However, the greatest series of all, One Piece, it has a good amount of romance. This is probably why it has remained so popular over the years.
There are little splashes of romance throughout the series’ more than 900 chapters. So let’s open the floodgates and talk about some pairs of fans. Hopefully this serves to hold on until it comes out Pirate Warriors 4 .
Updated November 4, 2021 by Olivia Subero: The progression of the most recent arc from Wano Country has given birth to another possible ship between Zoro and one of the new characters. Additionally, this list has been updated to fix some outdated data and fix other minor bugs.
8 My Hero Academia ships fans support (& 7 they reject)
One Piece: 5 things fans miss from before the Timeskip
10 Fans Are Behind: Nami X Sanji
There is no other place to start, right? Nami and Sanji, the couple the manga insists on the most and the one that fans talk about the most. Some are against it due to how perverted Sanji is and he loves all the women he sees.
Others are against it because they believe that Sanji should stay alone or hang out with another of his potential love interests, such as Pudding or Viola. But, at the end of the day, these two guys have saved each other from forced marriage attempts, they constantly tease each other (although Sanji is usually the one who teases), and they have natural chemistry.
9 rejected fans: Luffy X Nami
Now, it could be said that Luffy and Nami have been through more together, and Nami may even trust Luffy more than Sanji. The rubber boy saved Arlong’s life and finally broke the walls that prevented him from connecting with anyone. However, to fans, these two have never seemed more than close friends.
Luffy makes no attempt to appear attractive to Nami, and she rarely, if ever, uses her feminine wiles to trick him. They are two kindred spirits with totally different personalities. We love the chemistry between the captain and the navigator of the Straw Hat crew, but we couldn’t imagine them romantically holding hands.
8 Fans are behind: Robin X Franky
Most casual readers of One Piece they prefer that the entire Straw Hat crew stay as friends. The entire series is based on the search for your true “nakama”, and forcing romantic ties would distort that general message. However, if there are two crew members that make sense together, those are Franky and Robin. They both act like mature older brothers to the rest of the group and have some really tragic backgrounds.
They have already crossed the romantic barrier before, right when Franky joined, although that instance was quite violent. However, a kind of subtle closeness is hinted at in the movies between the Oharan scholar and Shipwright’s protégé, and fans are in favor of it.
7 rejected fans: Usopp X Perona
There is a real tendency that if two characters share some similarity, people think they are destined for each other. Remember that most of these people who rant about matchmaking on forums are teenagers or children, so they are a bit inexperienced when it comes to a successful mature relationship.
And a pairing that was constantly fought for with little evidence is that of Usopp and Perona. They are both realistic, and not to say “weak” and cowardly. Oh, and they both have unique facial expressions. However, they have only shared a fight and a few conversations. There is nothing in terms of romantic interest or even friendship in general.
6 Fans are behind: Usopp X Kaya
On the other hand, Usopp and Kaya could be a couple confirmed by the mangaka Eiichiro Oda himself. They both like each other. They have also made it known; it is simply a matter of Kaya surviving until Usopp manages to overcome the Grand Line, and their match is secure.
Usopp almost died for her, she has sacrificed so much for him, and she actually likes his cowardly nature and tendency to lie. It is a classic case of individuals who grew up together and age together. When it comes to romances, aside from Capone Bege and his wife Charlotte Chiffon, this is the most real thing there can be in the universe of One Piece .
5 Rejected Fans: Zoro X Perona
Poor Perona, it seems that she cannot make anyone fall in love. It’s not that she tries, but that her personality puts anyone close to her in the “friend zone.” While it is true that Zoro and Perona have spent a lot of time together, they have chemistry in conversations and an honest and natural exchange, it still does not seem romantic. What’s more, they seem unlikely allies forced to be friends because of their situation.
Think about how the alliance between Luffy and Trafalgar began; It is much more like that than how Usopp and Kaya talk. Although it would be nice for Zoro to find love so he can develop a little more emotional depth beyond “I want to cut things right”, it is unlikely that he will find what he is looking for with Perona.
4 Fans are behind: Smoker X Tashigi
There is a common agreement among those who work in any company that you should not date anyone you work with on a daily basis. People need space to maintain healthy relationships. Being forced to see your partner every day at work and when you’re home only complicates things.
Yet somehow, we still think that Captain Marine Smoker and his subordinate Tashigi would make a fantastic couple. It honestly seems like Tashigi is the only person Smoker opens up to, and it also seems to encompass everything Tashigi wants to become as a marine. Also, both of them have possessed each other’s bodies for a while in Punk Hazard, so that adds another strange level to the potential chemistry.
3 Rejected Fans: Zoro X Tashigi
While there was a genuine connection between Smoker and Tashigi, between Zoro and the sword-wielding marine there is almost nothing. Well, aside from the fact that she looks like her dead childhood friend, which is almost the worst possible reason for romance.
Tashigi and Zoro are sword users, and while there are hundreds of fan theories that she is Kuina, it has not been confirmed, and they still have almost no chemistry today. However, it is enough that both use swords for fans to rant and complain that they are for each other.
2 Fans are behind: Zoro X Hiyori
Now that the Wano Country arc is in full swing, a number of new characters have been introduced to fans. Hiyori, the youngest daughter of the late Oden Kozuki, teams up with the famous swordsman of the Straw Hat Gang. After Zoro saves her and Otoko from a runaway Kamazo, Hiyori stays by his side as he hides. She feels more comfortable revealing her true identity to him after realizing that he is in league with her brother, Momonosuke. Hiyori’s trust in Zoro is strengthened when she decides to hand over to Enma, a precious relic inherited from her father.
It’s rare to see Zoro approach another woman other than Nami or Robin, so fans welcome the idea of a ship between him and Hiyori. Their personalities are completely opposite, but there is a strong bond between them. His jokes are also a pleasure, and fans are looking forward to seeing more.
1 Fans Rejected: Luffy X Boa Hancock
Let’s take a look at one of the series’ most forced pairings that generates nothing but contempt. Boa Hancock is a selfish and vain assassin. But he has a real soft spot for a certain Monkey D. Luffy. It’s a hilarious series of events, and fans love that she melts at the sight of it, even when she picks her nose.
But, these two wouldn’t last together. Luffy wouldn’t be in any way submissive to her, Hancock wouldn’t fit the Thousand Sunny at all, and their goals couldn’t be more different. As unrequited love, it’s kind of fun, but as a serious relationship, it doesn’t hold up much.
