We are a few months away from the end of the first month of the year, and yet the weather is still on the balance sheet of 2022. And for good reason! 2022 has been a very eventful year for Japanimation. In this regard, Oricon revealed the name of the franchise that made the biggest turnover during the past year. And big surprise is Jujutsu Kaisen which comes first before One Piece.
A rain of tickets for Jujutsu Kaisen
This week, Oricon gave the top 30 franchises of 2022. According to this ranking, Jujutsu Kaisen comes first, and takes the advantage over One Piece. If we go by the numbers, the universe of Gege Akutami generated nearly 70 million euros. At the same time, One Piece earned 49 million euros. In order, we then find Tokyo Revengers, Spy x Family, Love Live, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Arashi Anniversary Tour, Detective Conan and Osomatsu-kun.
At first glance, all of the manga in the top 30 all have an animated series, which has contributed to its popularity. Then, we note that the ranking is largely dominated by shonen. Finally, the majority of the top 10 contains recent anime. To see One Piece or Detective Conan appearing there is therefore an achievement to be congratulated.
The future of Jujutsu Kaisen
Ultimately, 2022 has been a great one for Jujutsu Kaisen. Remember that in 2022, the franchise did not release a series, but an animated film around the character of Yuta Okkotsu. This film had made a huge breakthrough at the Japanese box office. At the same time, the manga develops new plots. Gege Akutami also hopes to complete his manga by the end of the year.
For 2023, the MAPPA studio plans to launch season 2 for the month of April. In it, two stories will be presented. The first concerns Gojo Satoru’s past, more specifically the period when he was a student at the school of exorcism with Geto. As for the second story, it concerns the arc of Shibuya. In Tokyo, plague masters are preparing a trap, which will be set up on October 31. Satoru is unfortunately in their sights.
