Zoro is based on a real pirate

Zoro Roronoa’s character is based on a pirate who existed in the real world. It was about Francois l’Olonnais, one of the most feared and bloodthirsty corsairs of the Caribbean Sea. Apparently this person used to torture his prisoners and then brutally murder them in many ways.

In this corner we see the character’s long nose next to a hook, so it is understood that the photograph was taken during the battle in the capital of Alabasta (there Usopp imitated a crocodile several times).

As Eiichiro Oda commented on one occasion or another, Zoro sometimes gives off a slight smell of steel. This would strengthen his bond with the swords he always carries with him, I suppose. After all, they are almost like limbs of his body.
