For a quarter of a century, Monkey D. Luffy’s epic journey to become the next Pirate King has garnered untold hordes of fans from all generations around the world. And there is no doubt that the work of Eiichirō Oda is the undisputed queen of the otaku world.
In case you have not yet given the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates a chance, we offer you a specific guide to join this peculiar crew in search of ‘One Piece’:
What is it about one piece?
The franchise has its origin in the homonymous manga written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda, which began its serialization in the magazine. Weekly Shonen Jump in July 1997. The publisher Shūeisha has compiled the story in more than a hundred volumes to date, being the best-selling manga in history, exceeding 500 million copies in circulation worldwide.
The anime adaptation produced by Toei Animation (dragon ball) began its broadcasts on October 20, 1999 in Japan. The animated saga already exceeds a thousand chapters and has a total of 15 feature films, in addition to inspiring numerous OVAs and specials for television.
Toei Animation provides the following synopsis for the anime:
“The series chronicles the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his fellow Straw Hat Pirates crew as they explore a fantastical world of endless oceans and exotic islands. Luffy’s goal is to find the legendary treasure known as ‘One Piece’ and thus become the next Pirate King.”

sagas of one piece
The story of one pieceboth the manga and the anime, can be divided into two main parts, which in turn are made up of multiple sagas and arcs.
Sea of Survival: The Paradise
Here we witness the origins and formation of the Straw Hat Pirates crew, as Luffy sails through “Paradise”, the first half of the Grand Line. The events in the Sea of Survival are divided into six sagas that almost completely covered the first 61 volumes of the manga. In the animated version, this part spanned from episode 1 to 516.

The “New World” is how the second half of the Grand Line is known. It is rumored that the legendary treasure ‘One Piece’ is found on its last island. Whoever conquers this sea will become the King of the Pirates, but first they must overcome the harsh natural threats and the powerful pirates that inhabit it.

Movies about one piece
As is often the case in other big franchises shonenthe feature films one piece they are not considered part of the official canon.
Although some can be wedged between certain points in the manga or anime, and even featured Oda himself, these are mostly self-contained stories with original plots, or alternate retellings of anime events. In any case, extra material to the delight of fans.
One Piece: The Movie (2000)
Legend has it that the pirate Woonan accumulated a third of all the gold in the world and retired to a remote island along with his treasure. Since then, many pirates have tried to find the island, but no one has succeeded.
One Piece: Gear Island Adventure (2001)
When the Card Brothers kidnap Nami and force her to betroth their captain, the terrible Bear King, the Straw Hat crew and the Thief Brothers decide to team up against these powerful bandits. Will they be able to rescue her and free the people of Gear Island from the tyranny?
One Piece: Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Rare Animals (2002)
The crew arrives at Corona Island, an island where animals talk. These make Chopper the new king of him. But there are some human hunters who want to seize the horns of the animals on that island, which, when consumed, provide immense powers. Luffy and his friends will have to defend them.
One Piece: Dead End Adventure (2003)
Luffy and his friends are again penniless. As they try to find a solution to their financial problems, Nami discovers a unique opportunity. This is the Dead End Race, a clandestine pirate ship race.
One Piece: The Curse of the Holy Sword (2004)
On Asuka Island, the Straw Hat Pirates learn about the most beautiful sword in the world, the Shichiseiken. The problem is that it contains a deadly curse. When they get back to the ship, Luffy and his friends discover that Zoro has disappeared.
One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Island of Secrets (2005)
The Straw Hat crew decides to take a few days off on Baron Omatsuri’s island. However, upon arrival, they discover that the welcome is only open to those who can win a series of individual events.
One Piece: The Great Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle (2006)
During a storm on the Grand Line, Luffy and company board a sinking ship and find a large treasure chest on it. The pirates discover an old woman with gold teeth inside.
One Piece: Alabasta Episode – The Pirates and the Desert Princess (2007)
A revolution is brewing in the Alabasta desert, but Princess Vivi and the Straw Hat pirates learn the truth. It’s all a Crocodile plot.

One Piece: Chopper Episode – The Miracle of the Cherry Blossom in Winter (2008)
When Nami falls ill, the Straw Hats seek medical attention on Drum Island. There, they meet reindeer doctor Tony Tony Chopper and the Wapol pirates.

One Piece: Strong World (2009)
Shiki, the legendary pirate, reappears and plans to destroy the World Government. When he kidnaps Nami, the Straw Hats face an unknown land.

One Piece 3D: Pursuit of the Straw Hat (2011)
A dog named Buzz steals Luffy’s straw hat. Therefore, Luffy enlists the help of his crew to track down the hat, which leads them on a journey through glaciers and seas.
One Piece Film:Z (2012)
Luffy and his group save a Navy admiral named Z, who has only one goal: to annihilate all the pirates in the world, including the Straw Hats.

The Straw Hat Pirates face off against the governor of Gran Tesoro, home to the world’s greatest entertainment city, where pirates, sailors and millionaires gather in absolute sanctuary governed by its own laws.

Pirates from around the world gather in a treasure hunting competition at the Pirate Festival to find the lost treasure of Gol D. Roger

One Piece Film: Red (2022)
The Straw Hat Pirates go to a music festival on a certain island to see the concert of Uta, a diva of enormous fame. What was going to be a normal concert is interrupted by a great revelation: Uta is the daughter of the Pirate Emperor Shanks.
The film will open on August 6 in theaters in Japan. Its premiere in Latin America has not been confirmed yet.
