One Piece celebrates the World Day of the Mugiwara, Luffy’s crew, this June 13

A day of joy and celebration for fans of one pieceWell, not long ago (at least for the series) it was declared that every June 13 would be celebrated as World Mugiwara Daya pirate crew made up of our protagonists and led by Monkey D. Luffy.

The origins of this celebration can be found in the SBS (question and answer column) of volume 84 of sleeve of one piece published five years ago in February 2017. The most curious thing is that Eiichiro Oda himself agreed to this request by a fan in Japan whose birthday he wanted to have some connection with the series:

“I was born on June 13, but I don’t share a birthday with any character. I was trying to think of one so I wouldn’t feel so alone, and then I realized that 6 can represent “Mugiwara” and 13 can be read as “Ichimi”! So what if June 13th is Straw Hat Crew Day? Ode: That?! If you think you can get away with it, you’re right!”

The Straw Hat crew began to form from chapter 04 of the sleeve when Zoro agreed to become the first nakama from Luffy. 23 years and 1053 chapters later mugiwara have risen to 10 members and there is even speculation about the arrival of the last nakama to the crew.

Here are the names of the Mugiwara (Straw Hat Pirates) and the position they occupy within the crew.

  1. Monkey D. Luffy (captain and founder of the crew)
  2. Roronoa Zoro (swordsman and first officer)
  3. Nami (navigator)
  4. Ussop (shooter)
  5. Vinsmoke Sanji (cook)
  6. Tony Tony Chopper (doctor)
  7. Nico Robin (Archaeologist)
  8. Franky/Cutty Flam (Carpenter)
  9. Brook (Musician)
  10. Jimbe (helmsman)
