One Piece conquers Times Square, as Luffy’s crew has taken over New York screens

The event was organized on the occasion of the theatrical release of Red, the new film devoted to the work of Eiichiro Oda.

A countdown. The same sequence reproduced on dozens of screens. Just a hint: a straw hat leaning against the scrolling numbers. The countdown ends. The most famous jolly roger in manga history appears and the straw hat begins to descend. When he reaches the bottom of the main screen, all of Times Square syncs up and fills with the protagonists of One Piece, the piracy manga written and drawn by Eiichiro Oda. On the evening of October 9, New York’s most iconic square filled with advertisements for the movie Red, the latest One Piece movie.

The film has already been released in other countries, starting with Japan. It will be released in US theaters on November 4. The event brought together fans of the saga and professionals. On TikTok and Instagram you can find images depicting fans dressed as the protagonists of Oda’s work while on Twitter the comment from Colleen Clinkenbeard, Luffy’s English voice actress, appeared: “I have no words. One Piece took Times Square by storm tonight and it was amazing. My heart is bursting”.
