One Piece: Netflix has just found its captain Shanks for its live series

Fans are still waiting for a first teaser, but the cast of the show has just expanded with a rookie of choice.

Published since 2000 in France, the manga One Piece has never been as popular as it is today. Since the first confinement, and no doubt thanks to the success of the anime, the work of Eiichiro Oda has been selling like hot cakes in bookstores and other stores, to the point of dethroning the giant dragonball. The pirate Luffy almost single-handedly embodies the explosion of manga in France in recent years.

A major character in Luffy’s story

A few months later the record launch of volume 100the hype has not gone down, and the universe One Piece still has many surprises for fans. An open-world video game has recently surfaced and could be released at the end of the year, but they are especially eager to discover the live-action adaptation on Netflix. This kind of project being often risky, the followers of One Piece expressed their fear when the project was announced. The recent failures of cowboy bebop Where Death Note in live-action proved thatadapting a manga was perhaps even more difficult than a video game.

As a reminder, it is the young Inaki Godoy (Who killed Sarah?) who will be in charge of playing Captain Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu (Pacific Rim: Uprising) will play Zoro, Emily Rudd (Fear Street) will lend his features to Nami, Taz Skylar (War crime) will be Sanji and Jacob Gibson (Greenleaf) will play Usopp. In recent hours, the cast has grown again, with the arrival of a very important character: Shanks. Captain of the Roux Crew, who will be the hero of the next movie One Roomwill be played by Peter Gadiot, recently seen in the series Yellowjacketsthe soap opera The Queen of the South or Supergirl.

A series that will adapt the first arcs of the cult manga

A new reinforcement which confirms that the series showrun by Steven Maeda and Matt Owens will adapt well the first arcs of the manga of Eiichiro Oda. While waiting for a first teaser which should be soon, we can expect to see the Straw Hat crew form and face their first enemies. With the character of Shanks being crucial in Luffy’s long and painful journey to becoming the Pirate King, there’s a good chance the character will have a major role, at least in the first season. More recently, the cast had already expanded, with the arrival of Morgan Davies (The Girlfriend Experience, Evil Dead Rise), to bring the young version of Kobby to life. Additionally, Jeff Ward (Marvel: Agents of SHIELD) will play Buggy the Clown, McKinley Belcher (ozark) will play Arlong the Fishman, and Vincent Regan (300, Troy) will be Garp, a Navy vice admiral and Luffy’s grandfather.
