Fans of the Straw Hat crew have reason to be delighted… And for good reason: on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the One Piece saga, Bandai Namco has announced the release of a new video game opus, One Piece Odyssey, for this year 2022. We tested, we tell you!

Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Usopp and the whole gang are back in new video game adventures, One Piece Odysseysoftware edited by bandai namco which is scheduled for release this year 2022 on computer (digital), PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series. An unexpected software announced with great fanfare on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the saga created by Eiichiro Odathrough a trailer revealing a bit of the history and characteristics of the game.

What does this trailer tell us? Not much, unfortunately… Or at least enough to maintain the mystery. We thus discover, on the story side, that the Sunny seems to have sunk body and well after a tough battle. We also discover the now famous straw hat worn by Luffy washed up on a beach. But let the fans be reassured, we find the whole team on what seems to be an island, on which our heroes will have to face many dangers and other wild animals. An original story written by the manga author himself!

Side gameplay, the players will embody Luffy, but not only, it seems, since we can see throughout the trailer the different characters launching special attacks, each more impressive than the other. Note that as explained Tsuzuki Katsuakigame producer at bandai namco (and relayed by our colleagues from, the characters and their abilities should be unveiled in the coming weeks, as the publisher communicates.

The latest trailer, unveiled during the Summer Game Festshowed us some images of a mysterious world, a island which seems well protected, and filled with magic. This teaser promises us many mysteries to be clarified, a new adventure and new encounters, which come to enrich this already very rich universe. Luffy and his companions embark on an odyssey full of twists and turns, in a graphic quality very worked.

Our preview:

A software that we were able to test in preview, during an event bandai namco. Graphically speaking, it’s pretty well done, between classic video game graphics in the sets and manga graphics for the characters. Two worlds that match quite well. On the story side, we were only able to test the tutorial, so it’s difficult to get an idea on the question, but it still seems quite faithful to the universe, since the objective was to travel the island in search of Namiin danger.

Side gameplayso it is possible to control Luffy, but also all of its crew, each with specific abilities allowing them to cross areas that other members of the crew cannot cross. Thereby, chopper can for example sneak into caves not big enough for the rest of the crew. Luffy can, meanwhile, reach distant areas by clinging to certain branches, thanks to its elastic arms. Zoro can, for example, cut stones to free access. In short, everyone has their task.

Concerning the fights, the amateurs of JRPGwith turn-based combat, should be delighted since the game offers this system, in a slightly more advanced version since the roleplay has a big impact on how battles play out. For example, when Sanji suffers a state alteration, such as confusion, this one, which should normally be able to attack any member of its crew, will never attack Nami Where Robinin relation to his unconditional love of women. Sanji is also less sensitive to heat, just like Luffy which for its part is insensitive to electricity. So many little things, married to the various groups of fighters, which complicate the approach to combat, encouraging players to play strategically.

A promising game, therefore, to discover more fully when it is released.

All that remains is to wait for a more precise release date, friends! Are you ready to become the Pirate King?
