One Piece is full of mysteries and anecdotes. We can say that Eiichiro Oda did not skimp on the details! His work is filled with a multitude of breathtaking characters. But there is one who has quietly slipped into the universe of One Piecewithout you even noticing it… Discover the Easter Egg that appears everywhere but is impossible to notice if you don’t know it’s there!
Pandaman: the hidden character of One Piece
One Piece now represents a substantial universe, in which each character has his story, his problems and his personality. But in chapter 44 of the manga during the Baratie arc, Pandaman appears for the first time. Some fans noticed it directly, and Oda spoke about it during the SBS for the next chapter. Here is the story of the most present Easter Egg in manga history.
Pandaman is a wrestler that Eiichiro Oda drew for a character design contest for the series Kinniku-man (known in France as muscle man). He is the captain of the Pandaman Ship and the crew of the same name (not very original type). Pandaman runs away from the Tomato Gang and its worst enemy, the Unforgivable Mask. And that is why we see him everywhere and why he is often fleeing during his appearances.
Throughout the series, he appears in crowds everywhere and at all times. He can be disguised as a citizen, a pirate, a government official… It can even be found in 400-year-old flashbacks!
In the first opening of One PiecePandaman fight Zoro and in opening 4, Usopp catches him with his fishing rod. Playing “I already have” with Pandaman is impossible, he has seen absolutely everything and experienced everything. For example in episode 50, he is part of the Roux crew. In episode 976, he is among the 4200 people gathered to beat Kaido. Also, his head is on books, clothes (often worn by Sanji), slot machines. His name even appears on a list of Impel Down prisoners… Plus, he has his own wanted poster! (His bounty is actually higher than Chopper’s…) In short, he’s everywhere, all the time.
Pandaman indeed remains present in all the arcs, except during the Amazon Lily arc, where he is replaced by Pandawoman, his fiancée (or his wife, we don’t know). The Easter Egg also appears on the inside covers of the volumes of One Piece !
Pandaman is a playable character in the game Grand Battle 2 on PlayStation. One of the Pirates Carnival mini-games is even called “Where’s Pandaman?” » (a little wink to Charlie). The goal of the mini-game is obviously to find Pandaman. It can also be seen in several places in the games One Piece Unlimited Adventure and Unlimited Cruise.
Now that you know, you will be attentive while reading and/or watching One Piece in order to try to spot Mr. Panda. As a result, you will very quickly realize that it is omnipresent.
