One piece: red is the next big animated adventure for the Straw Hats on the big screen, seeing the return of red-haired Shanks as well as the introduction of his daughter Uta. Recently over at Comicbook.com, we had the chance to chat with the film’s producer, Shinji Shimizu, as he talked about the fifteenth film in the franchise while discussing which anime project he was working on that was the most difficult in his career. .
In addition to working on Red specifically, Shinji has worked on a number of other major projects for Toei Animation, including the likes of One Piece: Gold, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and One Piece: Dead End Adventure to name a few. During our chat, Shimizu revealed that he thinks Stampede was the toughest project of his career, thanks in part to a “tight schedule”:
“I would say One Piece: Stampede was difficult. The schedule was really tight, but thank goodness the movie did pretty well.”
When we asked Shinji what was his favorite A play movie was, he replied that Red was his current favorite, although a past entry in the Shonen franchise is also the one that brings him joy:
“That’s an easy question. It’s Red, of course. After that, I would say I really like Dead End Adventure.”
The official description of One piece: red from Crunchyroll, which is assisting Toei Animation with the worldwide release of the film, reads:
“Uta – the most beloved singer in the world. Her voice, which she sings with while hiding her true identity, has been described as “otherworldly”. She will appear in public for the first time during a live concert. As the room fills with all kinds of Uta fans – excited pirates, the navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who have simply come to enjoy his sonic performance – the voice that the whole world been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is “Shanks’ daughter.” Uta stands on stage, with the ordinary wish to “make the world happy with my music”. There’s Gordon, a mysterious figure who knows about Uta’s past, and shadowy glimpses of Shanks. On Elegia, the Island of Music, Luffy and Uta reunite for the first time since they last met 12 years ago in Foosha Village.
