One Piece Red trailer and release date for Shanks-centric movie

After One Piece Stampede, released in 2019, the saga will soon be back on the big screen with One Piece Red! This time, this feature film will focus on Shanks, nicknamed Le Roux.

This character is the captain of the Roux crew and one of the Four Emperors. He is also a former member of the legendary Pirates Roger, the only group to have successfully conquered Grand Line. Although relatively low-key in the anime, he is the pirate who inspired Luffy, the main character of the series.

A first trailer was released as part of the celebrations around Episode 1000 of the anime. While it doesn’t reveal much of the plot, it does confirm rumors of a Shanks-centric story. This character very appreciated by One Piece aficionados will therefore have a deserved spotlight.

Toei Animation has also announced the release date. It will be for the August 6, 2022 in Japan. Red was written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Gold), under the direct supervision of creator Eiichiro Oda. It will be directed by Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass Lelouch of the Resurrection). For the moment, no French release date announced. However, it will not be long in coming as the enthusiasm around the franchise is exceptional.

First published in 1997, One Piece has become the best-selling manga in the world with 490 million copies sold to date. The 100th volume of Luffy’s adventures will be released in France on December 8, to the delight of fans. They can also revel in the 1000th episode of the animated adaptation, online on DNA.

Also note that a live action series will soon see the light of day on Netflix with Iñaki Godoy in the role of Monkey D. Luffy. The license therefore still has a bright future ahead!
