The story he captured on those pages was titled Romance Dawn and it featured a Luffy, a young man very different from the one we know, together with annie, a girl very similar to Nami. In 2019, as part of the franchise’s 20-year anniversary celebration, Toei Animation decided to surprise the author by making a great animated adaptation of Romance Dawn.
This chapter started with Luffy, who was adrift in a small boat, totally calm until the moment a strange bird falls from the sky that ends up making a hole. Immediately afterwards, a gigantic ship appears in front of him, whose captain asks him to put the animal on his ship.
Once upstairs we meet annie, a young woman with light blue hair who had been captured by the pirates of that ship. She explains that it was Captain Spiel who destroyed her village and ended up dragging her along with her friend.
After a short conversation, Luffy ends up making fun of Spiel’s weird hairstyle and ends up being locked up with Annie. Once together in the cell, she tells him that Balloon It is a bird that is in danger of extinction.
After hearing his story, we learn a bit about Luffy’s past. He tells how there are two types of pirates in the world: Morganeers, who are dedicated to looting and stealing. On the other hand, there are the Peace Mains, those who fight evildoers. He remembers how his grandfather was one of the good guys.
