While volume 100 of One Piece is about to be released in France, Eiichiro Oda, its author, pays tribute to one of its greatest and talented competitors!
Detective Conan, nearly 30 years of success
Fan of manga and Japanese animation or not, you must have heard of Detective Conan, one of the most well-known and beloved manga series of the past 25 years. The figures speak for themselves, since Detective Conan is the fourth best-selling manga series of all time, with more than 250 million copies sold worldwide.
A real phenomenon that never seems to weaken, Detective Conan a hit in all areas. Still in production, the anime now has no less than 1025 episodes spread over 26 seasons, while there are 24 adaptations in animated films, the latest being released in April and representing the second highest grossing film of the year in Japanese theaters., A twenty-fifth film is already in the works, while a spin-off series will soon air on Netflix.
In short, the saga has never been better, while the manga also continues on its way. Its hundredth volume has just been released, a symbolic milestone which necessarily means a lot for its author, Gosho Aoyama. The event was therefore well worth the congratulations of another big name in Japanese manga.
Detective Conan, in the big leagues
On the occasion of the release of the hundredth volume of Detective Conan, its author, Gosho Aoyama, was therefore entitled to a nice surprise. It is indeed Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece in person, who decided to publicly congratulate him through a few words:
I’ve never met him, but he’s kind of like a comrade in arms. I know how difficult it is to reach 100 volumes, Aoyama-san! Congratulations on the 100 volumes of Conan! Eiichiro Oda, in a short press release here
A short message which, no one doubts, must have touched “Aoyama-san” a lot. It’s not every day that the author of the world’s most popular manga congratulates us on our work. Because for those who still don’t know, One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time, of which 100 volumes have already sold nearly half a billion copies. We also know the cast of his upcoming live adaptation!
And yes, you read that correctly: 100! Like his colleague at the origin of Detective Conan, Eiichiro Oda published last September the hundredth volume of his series born 24 years ago. If you are fans of the work of the 46-year-old author, know that this hundredth volume will also be available in France in a limited collector’s edition and offering a faux leather cover.
