France Télévisions has just unveiled the list of twenty-five books that will make up the winners of its program “The favorite book of the French”. Among them, “Les Misérables”, “Cyrano de Bergerac” and… the manga “One Piece”! As part of a brand new program called “The favorite book of the French”, France Télévisions invited the public to vote for its favorite work. Launched last April, this survey took place on the Internet, during two major phases of spontaneous consultation, and made it possible to generate a list of twenty-five major works. Where did this or that book rank? You will have to watch France 2 on December 15 (date of broadcast of the program) to find out. In the meantime, France Télévisions unveiled, Wednesday, November 23, the list of twenty-five works in competition. Classics…and mangas! Particularly eclectic, this list gives pride of place to the great classics of French and foreign literature (“Les Misérables”, “Cyrano de Bergerac”, “Au Bonheur des Dames”, “1984”, “Pride and prejudice”…), to from ultra-known fantastic works (“Harry Potter”, “The Lord of the Rings”…), to more contemporary books (“All the blue of the sky”, “It is high time to light up the stars”…) but also , and this is perhaps the most surprising, to manga (“One Piece”, “Dragon Ball”, “Attack on Titans”…). In a press release, France Télévisions justified the presence of manga in the ranking by explaining its wish to put “all literature in the spotlight” and to give “the floor to all readers, all generations combined”. Finally, note that “The favorite book of the French” will be hosted by journalists Camille Diao and Michel Field, and that the program will be punctuated by the interventions of many guests, such as Juliette Binoche, Gérard Lanvin, Camille Lellouche, Ibrahim Maalouf and Vincent Delerm.
