After 5 years of absence, the beautiful collaborative mural baptized as reddit Place returned a few days ago and quickly managed to become a global phenomenon that brought together multiple internet communities. This initiative allowed users, with a lot of patience and coordination, to create beautiful pixel art illustrations. Sadly, there have already been those who tried to take economic advantage of this situation.
It just so happens that someone stole some themed murals from one piece that were made by the reddit Place community to sell them as NFTs and earn thousands of pesos. This situation, of course, caused the outrage of the fans.
The king of pirates! Subject sells reddit’s One Piece murals as NFTs
At this point in the game, it is more than clear that NFTs are highly controversial and generate mixed reactions. Regardless of whether you are for it or against it, it is undeniable that many people have already turned to this technology to carry out scams and other questionable practices. The theft of art, unfortunately, in one of them.
Thus, in recent months we have seen multiple cases of opportunists who used third-party artwork and material to sell NFT for profit. The most recent case of this morally questionable practice involved precisely some images of one piece that were made on reddit Place during the last days.
Reddit user FrostDesigns made this situation known in a post. “Someone at OpenSea put the Roger pixel art we made on r/place as NFT and is selling it for $300 USD.”
While dozens of fans expressed their displeasure in the comments section, others dug further into the matter and discovered that, in fact, 3 illustrations in total were stolen and put up for sale as Non-Fungible Tokens. The first 2 images, which show Gol D. Roger and the leading group, cost $251.82 USD. The third and last illustration has a value of $106.54 USD.
Of course, it will be interesting to find out if anyone decides to buy this collection of art from reddit. If we consider that the collaborative mural disappeared again a few days after its return, it is clear that we could be facing pieces that, in the future, will be greatly missed by collectors of digital units.
But tell us, what do you think of this situation? Let us read you in the comments.
