The band I Don’t Like Mondays will give voice to the new opening of One Piece
The latest issue of the magazine Weekly Shônen Jump, from the publisher Shueisha, has revealed that the musical group I Don’t Like Modays will be in charge of giving voice to new theme music anime opening One Piece. The opening will contain the song «Paint» and it will sound for the first time in the series the next January 9, 2022.
The anime of One Piece, produced by Toei Animation, has been broadcast since 1999 on the Japanese network Fuji TV and already has over 900 episodes. The latest saga in the series, spanning the arc of “Country of Wano”, premiered in July 2019 and continues to air to this day. Crunchyroll offers the simulcast anime in original version with Spanish subtitles.
As for the manga, created by Eiichiro Oda, continues to be published in the pages of the magazine Weekly Shônen Jump since its debut in 1997, already accumulating a total of 101 compilation volumes in the Japanese market. It is not just another series, but it is an icon of the otaku culture that is already in the Hall of Fame from manga history. Apart from possessing the title of the best-selling series in manga history, has other milestones such as being one of the finalists of the awards Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize from 2000 to 2002, grand prize winner at 41 Japan Cartoonists Association Award in 2012 and be holder of the honorary award of the Kumamoto prefecture in 2018. The manga is edited in Spain by Comic Planet, the 97 first volumes of the work. The same publisher has also published the franchise’s official guides, art books, and various anime comics based on films.
Apart from the animated series, the franchise also has a total of 14 movies, the last of them One Piece Estampida which was released in Japan on August 1, 2019. All of them have been released in Spain on DVD and Blu-ray by Select Vision. Regarding the television series, this was licensed by Arait Multimedia and broadcast and dubbed into Spanish 254 episodes on television. His last step at the national level was in Boing, its broadcast on said free-to-air channel being canceled in 2012. Other derivatives such as video games have also been launched in the Spanish market, mainly those published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
