As part of the 25th anniversary celebration of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, the release of a new trading card game by Bandai in Japan has been announced to arrive in mid-July 2022, with an upcoming global English release planned for end of this year. Unfortunately, there is no announcement so far indicating a Spanish version, either Iberian or Latin.
Here is an introductory trailer in English, followed by a celebratory illustration with commentary from Oda:
The message from Eiichiro Oda, creator of One Piece, says the following, Luffy: “I summon my Kaido card!”; Kaido: “Impossible!”. I don’t know much about card games, but they’re kind of like Yu-Gi-Oh!, right!? They jump from cards too, yeah! I heard that they will use illustrations from the original work and release it to the whole world. They really are going to be everywhere and I will be on the lookout until the end. Come on One Piece card game, can’t wait!
A final note mentions the following: “They don’t really jump from cards” (as in Yu-gi-Oh!, the anime). For its part, Bandai NAMCO released a video on its official YouTube channel which celebrates the arrival of this card game and its global launch.
The official site also shared on their social networks examples of the card designs and retail packaging for the game, as shown in the image below:
In the official One Piece TCG card, we can see Monkey D. Luffy with his respective life points (5) and what appears to be his attack level (4000), as the symbol next to him has that meaning. In addition, it provides a brief description of the type of character that will be “Leader / Crew of the Straw Hats / Captain”. It is possible that this latest data plays an important role in the mechanics of this card game, but we will have to wait a little longer to find out..
The company gave the following message regarding this release: “Announcing Bandai’s One Piece card game! Get ready for a Japanese release in July 2022 and a worldwide English release later in 2022! Discover #ONEPIECE !”
Similarly, these dates may be modified due to the current global pandemic. So, we recommend to closely follow the One Piece Card Game Official English Version official account (@ONEPIECE_tcg_EN) which will continuously update about this release.
