One Piece: Red is the next film in Eiichiro Oda’s franchise and it seems that this author has made a couple of requests to the team behind the production. And, although little is known about its development and history (besides the fact that Shanks could be part of it), there is a report of Anime News Networ which gives us more information about this future film in the franchise.
Producer Shinji Shimizu shared at a conference held by Toei Animation that Eiichiro Oda gave two requests to the team behind the film. The first one is that the director had to be someone who was not previously involved in the anime adaptation and that: A female character will stand out in this production. These requests came because this film is not canon, like other films in the franchise it is a spin-off that is not part of the main story.
Until now, the anime’s quality film has not been affected by the global pandemic and these requests were made to Shinji Shimizu’s team successfully. In this way, Goro Taniguchi, known for his work with the anime adaptation Code Geass, ended up being the director of One Piece: Red. Eiichiro Oda’s second request regarding a female character taking a major role in this film seems to have been equally fulfilled.
One Piece: Red, the long-awaited film of the franchise will be released in August in Japan
Unlike other mangaka like Masashi Kishimoto or Akira Toiryama, Eiichiro Oda has been celebrated for his female characters like Nami, Boa, Okiku, among others. The most recent case is Okiku, which belongs to the current arc of the manga, the Wano Country arc, in which she wanted to fight alongside Monkey D. Luffy. The screenwriter in charge of the film, Tsutomu Kuroiwa, managed to satisfy the requests of the creator of the series, although at first it was somewhat difficult..
Most likely, said character was not initially contemplated by the production of this film, so its writer has had to make some adjustments.. Too bad the information shared was not the synopsis of this new film, at least to get an idea of what to expect. It will be released in Japanese theaters on August 6 this year.
