The latest issue of the magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday confirmed the details of the next feature film of the multimedia franchise of Detective Conan, which will be titled Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween (Meitantei Conan: Halloween no Hanayome) and which will be released on April 15, 2022 in theaters in Japan.
The press release confirmed that members of the police academy, namely Rei Furuya, Jinpei Matsuda, Wataru Date, Kenji Hagiwara and Hiromitsu Morofushi, will appear within the project. The creator of the franchise, Gosho Aoyama, had previously indicated that the members of the police academy “would take the lead”In the twenty-fifth film of the franchise, and the statement also shows the wedding between Miwako Sato and Wataru Takagi.
For his part, Aoyama publishes the manga in the magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday from the publisher Shogakukan since January 1994, with a total of one hundred compilation volumes published to date. In addition to a host of movies and OVAs, the play is inspiring an anime adaptation produced by the studios. TMS Entertainment, which has been in broadcast since January 1996.
- Susumu Mitsunaka (Campione !: Matsurowanu Kamigami to Kamigoroshi no Maou, Cuticle Tantei Inaba, Haikyuu !!, Ookiku Furikabutte: Natsu no Taikai-hen) is in charge of the direction of the feature film in the studios TMS Entertainment.
- Takahiro Ookura (Lupin III: Part 5, Lupin III: Part 6) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
- Gosho Aoyama, the author of the original manga, is credited with the main idea for this animation project.
Synopsis of Detective Conan
The manga series centers on Conan Edogawa, the alias of Detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrank after being poisoned early in the story. Together with detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries.
The Detective Conan manga has been running since 1994 and in August became the first Weekly Shonen Sunday series to publish its 1,000th chapter. The manga has inspired an ongoing anime series, and an annual anime film series. The 22nd film in the franchise, Meitantei Conan Zero no Shikkōnin (Detective Conan: Zero’s Executioner), opened in Japan on April 13 and became the highest grossing film in franchise history. Aoyama’s various manga series have a total of 200 million copies in print worldwide.
