A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing four volumes of Tokyo Revengers, a popular manga about high school boys. Illustrated and written by Ken Wakui, the award-winning title is serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen magazine.
The story follows the exploits of Tokyo Manji Gang and has been adapted into an anime and live action movie. The Manji Buddhist characters that appear in the anime were edited from the anime’s American release, to avoid confusion with the Nazi swastika.
According to information from Yahoo! News Japan and Fuji Network News, the suspect was filmed allegedly stealing the manga with a closed-circuit camera at a Sapporo bookstore. On October 19, when he returned to the store, staff alerted police who arrived at the scene and detained the suspect.
