[Mundo Geek] Tokyo Avengers: the series of the moment

During the first few weeks of the year, the tops and countdowns of the best of the past year are in full swing. This is the case of the list of the 10 favorite animes of Crunchyroll users, the streaming platform for Japanese animated series best known in the West, owned by Funimation and in turn by Sony. In Mexico, the service is available for a monthly subscription of 125 pesos in its “megafan” presentation, and 99 pesos in its “fan” mode.

At the end of December, Crunchyroll called on its users to choose their favorite anime in all of 2021 and it was on January 3 when the editors announced the results of this dynamic, which accumulated 8,390 participations and yielded the anime as the definitive winner. “Tokyo Revengers”, a series based on the manga, written by Ken Wakui since 2017, dealing with the depression, frustration and despair of a young man facing the death of a teenage love.

Tokyo Avengers, first place

With 954 votes, the anime released in April 2021 was the most voted by Crunchyroll users. The story follows Takemichi Hanagaki, a 26-year-old freeter (term used for young Japanese people with part-time jobs) who seems to have no goals in life, until he discovers that his teenage girlfriend Hinata Tachibana and her brother Naoto are killed by a gang. Soon, Takemichi discovers that he has the power to travel through time, a resource that he will use to try to save Hinata and her friends.

Attack on Titan, second place

Since its premiere in April 2013, “Attack on Titan,” based on the manga by Hajime Isayama, has become an immediate success. In almost a decade, he has not only won the applause of the public, but also critics, who have put his best episodes on a par with the best episodes of successful contemporary series such as “Breaking Bad” or “Game of Thrones”.

In this apocalyptic story, humanity faces the threat of the titans, sheltering in a city protected by walls. Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman and Armen Arlert are three children who overcome their fears by enlisting in the army in order to fight against the titans. Along the way, they will face the loss of family and great friends and, while discovering the origin of the titans, their way of seeing things will change chapter after chapter.

In 2022, Crunchyroll will premiere the second part of the fourth and final season of this anime, which received 941 votes.

Jujutsu Kaisen, tercer lugar

Based on the manga by Gege Akutami, the story follows student Yūji Itadori, who joins an organization of sorcerers to end a curse called Ryōmen Sukuna, which he hosts. With a duration of 24 episodes, the series was released in the year 2020. In the Crunchyroll count, it received 835 votes.
