After a two-year extension due to COVID, we will once again enjoy a week of the best Japanese cinema thanks to the 5th Cycle of Japanese Cinema, which will take place from April 21 to 28 at the Kinepolis Ciudad de la Imagen cinemas in Madrid, with five titles, some of them rigorous previews, that will not leave anyone indifferent.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Kinepolis Ciudad de la Imagen cinemas in Madrid on April 21 at 7:00 p.m., prior to the screening of Woman Of The Photographs, which will be attended by the Ambassador of Japan, Hon. Kenji Hiramatsu, as well as numerous personalities from the cultural and cinematographic sector.

Woman Of The Photographs (2020), a thriller by Takeshi Kushida, will be the film that opens the cycle on Thursday, April 21, which tells the story of Kai, a photographer who discovers what it means to fall in love with a woman when he meets Kyoko, a model with a large scar on her body confused with her own identity.

Some films to highlight in this cycle are the award-winning and already mentioned Drive My Car (2021), by Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, based on the Japanese writer Haruki Murakami’s work with the same title; either belle (2021), an anime by Mamoru Hosoda, which was present at different festivals such as the one in Sitges and takes us into the virtual world through Suku, a 17-year-old girl who has lost her mother.

Fans of Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Avengers manga will also be able to enjoy the 2021 film with the same title. Directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa, the “life action”, which had a resounding box office success in Japan, is based on the work of the Japanese mangaka, which also has its adaptation as a television series in 2020.

The cycle will close its fifth edition on Thursday, April 28 with the premiere of the anime of Masashi Ando The Deer King (2021), present at the Sitges Festival in which the story of the soldier Van is told, who meets little Yuna when he is taken as a slave and they start a journey together after overcoming complicated situations.
