Kimetsu no Yaiba (aka Demon Slayer), Jujutsu Kaisen and Tokyo Revengers are among the most popular series on Twitter for this year 2021. This is what emerges from the new analytical data published by the social network.
The medium, known for its short formats, published the lists of the ten most discussed topics, people, movies, music and series on its platform during the year, and a number of popular anime series have managed to make their way into the series rankings.
For example, the Japanese stop-motion animation series Pui Pui Molcar Akira Noguchi got the surprising tenth place, while Tokyo Revengers de Ken Wakui, which immerses us in the story of a young delinquent traveling through time, placed seventh.
Demon Slayer, most likely driven by the hype surrounding the second season of the anime adaptation, placed fourth, surprisingly ahead of Disney + and Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most talked about series (MCU), Wandavision. Finally, Jujutsu Kaisen managed to beat almost every other series in the world, including Netflix’s mega international hit, Squid Game. The shonen finished in second place, being second only to the Brazilian version of the reality show Big Brother.

The three Japanese animated series appearing in Twitter’s top 10 had a very good year 2021: Tokyo Revengers was the third best-selling manga of the year in Japan, selling nearly 25 million copies. The series also featured the first season of its animated adaptation, produced by Liden Films, to which we owe in particular the adaptations of Terra Formars, The Heroic Legend of Arslân, Killing Bites or Tejina Senpai.
Demon Slayer was the second best-selling manga of the year, with 29.5 million copies sold in Japan alone. The moving epic of Koyoharu Gotouge about a group of swordsmen protecting humanity from demons is one of the most popular anime and manga franchises of all time, with a total circulation of over 150 million copies worldwide.

And finally the last, and not the least, is none other than the unstoppable Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami. The highest-ranked anime on Twitter’s list is also the best-selling manga of the year, with 30 million copies sold in Japan in the last 12 months. The first season of the animated adaptation of the series ended in March of this year, and the first animated film, based on the prequel manga Jujutsu Kaisen 0, will be released in Japan on December 24.
